
Born in Essex County to parents George and Ida Likovsky, Harriet had two older brothers, Joseph and Barney Larner (both deceased). She attended Orange High School and received a Bachelor's of Arts degree from the University of Michigan. After college, she worked as a social worker in Newark, providing information and services to people in need in their homes.
Harriet was deeply committed to the community where she lived her entire life, as well as to the Jewish community. She was involved with the Jewish Community Center for over 60 years; she served as President of the Metrowest JCC, President of the International Federation of JCCs, and an Honorary Board Member of the JCC Association of North America. She was also on the Board of Trustees and a member of the Bioethics Committee of Newark Beth Israel Hospital. Harriet Likovsky Rosenthal leaves behind a remarkable legacy of compassion, leadership, and dedication to her loved ones and her community. She was held in the highest regard by her community, inspiring several generations of leadership, and received the inaugural Women of Valor award from the JCC of Metrowest. She was deeply loved by her family and friends and will be profoundly missed by all.
Harriet is predeceased by her husband of 67 years, William Rosenthal, and her daughter Julie. She is survived by her children David, Susan (Kleinman), and Richard as well as, Julian Ang, and William Kleinman, her three grandchildren: Laura Kleinman Malhotra (40), Sarah Kleinman Dzerko (39), and Marc Kleinman (38), as well as four great-grandchildren: Neve (8), Nadi (6), Maksym (3), and Lana (1).
In lieu of flowers, Harriet can be honored with a gift to her beloved JCC of Metrowest or the National Council of Jewish Women.
The family will be receiving guests for Harriet on Sunday, May 11, 2025, from 10:15 AM to 10:45 AM at Bernheim-Apter-Kreitzman Suburban Funeral Chapel, 68 Old Short Hills Rd, Livingston, New Jersey 07039. The funeral service will begin at 11:00 AM, followed by burial at Oheb Shalom Cemetery, 1321 N Broad St, Hillside, NJ 07205.
