Harvey was born in Newark on March 2, 1932 to Jacob and Sarah Posner. In 1950, he graduated
South Side High School in Newark, NJ where he played football.
He enjoyed keeping himself physically fit and was known as quite the athlete, in the Cabana Club Swim Club years on the weekends he would play full court basketball for hours and on Sunday mornings play on their softball team, assisting them in being the winning team of the swim club league summer after summer. He was known as the pitcher without a glove. Also it was not that uncommon to find a pickup basketball game at his home in Livingston. During the week, you could find him playing paddleball at the JCC in West Orange and in the later years on the weekends in Brooklyn at Manhattan Beach. Working out and exercising in the gym was always his passion which he pursued right up until his passing.
He owned his own business, Posner Battery and Tire Distributors in Newark, NJ for 40 years. After the sale of his business, he had made a career change and became a bond broker. Most recently he was employed for the last 16 years by Jeffrey Matthews Financial, whom he worked for at the time of his passing.
In the summer of 1953, he met Charlotte Burkam at Bradley Beach, NJ and they married on
March 7, 1954 recently celebrating their 67th wedding anniversary.
In addition to his wife he is survived by son Mitchell Posner, daughter Donna Aflalo, son-in-law Yoram Aflalo, beloved granddaughter Eden Aflalo and his brothers Hyman Posner of Florida and David Posner (Sandra) of Livingston. Predeceased are sisters Jean Brodian (Sol), Miriam Form (George), brother Joseph Posner and sister-in-law Irene Posner.
Funeral services for Harvey were held on Friday, May 7th, 2021 at Mount Lebanon Cemetery in Iselin, NJ.
