
The Coleman family is deeply saddened to announce the passing of Ira Allen Coleman, who died on January 25, 2026, at St. Barnabas Medical Center in Livingston, NJ. He had recently celebrated his 85th birthday on December 20th.
Born in Newark, NJ, and raised in Hillside,NJ, Ira was a cornerstone of the Livingston community. For decades, he owned and operated the iconic Coleman’s Tuxedos, a business founded by his father, Kip Coleman.
A gifted athlete and avid golfer, Ira’s competitive spirit was legendary. He was a seven-time Men’s Club Champion at Crestmont Country Club in West Orange and twice conquered the New York City Marathon. Beyond his athletic pursuits, Ira was known for his sharp, dry sense of humor and a heart filled with love. He cherished his friends like family and was a devoted animal lover who shared his home with many beloved cats and dogs over the years.
Ira is survived by his loving wife, Vickie Coleman; his big sister, Doreen Solomon, and her husband Irwin; and his five children: David Coleman and his wife Gwen Coleman; Heather Coleman and her husband Dr. David Ober; Kip Coleman and her husband Jon Mandelbaum; Corey Handler; and Alexis Coleman and her partner Karen Traynor. He was the adoring grandfather to Ross and Robert Coleman; Joshua and Jacob Ober; and Eden, Madden, and Landon Mandelbaum.
Funeral services will take place on Wednesday, January 28, 2026 at 1pm at Bernheim Apter Kreitzman Suburban Funeral Chapel, 68 Old Short Hills Road, Livingston, NJ. Services will be livestreamed. The family will be receiving guests from 12:15pm to 12:45pm. The burial will follow at Beth David Memorial Park, Beth David Rd, Kenilworth, NJ.
