Irving Malat, 98, passed away on November 2, 2026. Born on June 3, 1928, in the Bronx, NY, Irving’s life reflected steady devotion—to family, to country, and to the work he built with care over a lifetime.
Irving served in the US Army during the Korean War, answering his nation’s call with quiet duty and resolve. In civilian life, he was the owner and operator of Norma Foods, a wholesale food distributor in the Bronx Terminal Market, where his reliability and work ethic shaped not only a business, but a way of providing for those who depended on him.
Irving was the beloved husband of the late Florence for 48 years, and a loving father of Alexis Altneu (Abe), Glenn Malat (Lisa), and Brian Malat (Linda). He was a cherished grandfather of Hyla (Neal), Chase (Belen), Jaclyn (Mark), and Jessica (Sula), and a devoted great grandfather of Ava, Eli, Liv, Noah, Esther, and Isaac.
Over the years, Irving made his home in many places, each chapter marked by commitment to family and the rhythms of everyday life. He lived in and raised his family in Bayside, Queens and Westhampton, NY. He then lived in Florida for 45 years.
A Graveside Service will be held at Mount Ararat Cemetery, 1165 NY-109, Lindenhurst, NY 11757 on November 4, 2026, at 10:30 am.
