He was married to the love of his life Phyllis Sobel on May 1, 1948. They shared a wonderful life together for 72 years. They were blessed with a loving family, sons David and Mark, daughters-in-law Andrea and Wendy, four devoted grandchildren Andrew, Julie, Sam, and Barry, and in their later years with four great grandchildren Leigha, Ellis, Parker, and Dylan.
Irwin and Phyllis moved to Livingston, New Jersey in 1952 and remained residents where they still resided at the time of his passing.
Irwin had a lifelong commitment to the community and was one of the founding members of Temple Beth Shalom. He could be found for many years on the Little League Fields managing his sons, organizing Cub Scout activities, and performing with local theater groups.
Irwin was a Navy veteran who fought in World War II. After the war he owned a mirror manufacturing firm Silver Troy Corporation in Belleville, NJ for more than 50 years. There were never enough hours in the day to contain his business energy. In his later years he wrote and painted, but his primary focus was to love and support in every way possible his wife and his family.
