Born in New York City to Herman and Ida Wainschel, Isabelle attended Bragaw Avenue Elementary School in Newark then Hillside High School. She graduated from Newark State College and pursued a lifetime of teaching at Frank Kenley School, Solomon Schechter Day School, Golda Och Academy, Livingston Public Schools, Temple Sholom of West Essex and B’nai Jeshurun Short Hills. Isabelle was a past president of Hillside B’nai Brith , PTA and Sisterhood member of Temple Beth Shalom Livingston as well as many other auxiliaries. She was also an active member of The Women’s Association at Cedar Hill Country Club Livingston NJ and a wicked card player.
Mrs. Himelstein is survived by her devoted husband Dr. Nathan Himelstein of 62 years; two daughters Julie (Dr. Gary) Borker and Shari Rynar; one brother Marvin (and Mickie) Wainschel; her six grandchildren, Zachary, Aliza, Jackson, Melissa, Jade and Chloe and one great grand puppy Milo and her nieces, nephews, grand nieces and grand nephews and countless friends and family across the world.
A funeral service for Mrs. Himelstein will be held Thursday, December 22, 2022 at 11:00 AM at Bernheim-Apter-Kreitzman Suburban Funeral Chapel, 68 Old Short Hills Road, Livingston, NJ 07039. Following the funeral service will be a burial at Beth El Cemetery, 735 Forest Aveue, Paramus, NJ 07652.
