Jacques was born in Paris, France to Bernard and Gittel Schweitzer on September 16, 1923. He spent his youth in France and fought the Nazi invasion as a resistance fighter in Lyon and as an ensign in the Free French Navy on a sub chaser. At the war’s end he emigrated to the United States and became an American citizen. He met, fell in love and married Sylvia Cantor in 1950 and settled in Brooklyn, NY to raise his family. His entire professional career was spent in the garment industry in New York City where he rose to become a successful executive in charge of production for a global clothing manufacturer. He traveled extensively throughout his life – in later years spending much professional time in Asia - and was fluent in several languages including a functional knowledge of Mandarin.
Jacques is joined in death by his wife of 67 years, Sylvia Schweitzer who passed away suddenly in her apartment approximately 4 hours after her husband. The family believes that their love was so strong and deep that Sylvia simply would not stand to be separated from her Jacques – even by his death.
Jacques and Sylvia are survived by their daughter, Ilene Rosenberg, and their son-in-law Arthur Rosenberg of Livingston, NJ. They are also survived by their son, Gerard Schweitzer, and their daughter-in-law, Paulette Lust of Head of the Harbor, Long Island NY. Jacques is also survived by his sister Estelle Seidman and his brother-in-law Raymond Seidman. They leave their grandchildren, Kara, Jenna and Jordan Rosenberg and Jeremy and Terence Schweitzer. They also leave behind great-grand children, Miguel and Maya.

Sylvia was born in Brooklyn to parents Louis and Fannie Cantor on the 27th of March, 1924. She spent her youth in Boro Park Brooklyn and graduated New Utrecht High School. She was a “Brooklyn gal” through and through and worked with the USO supporting the troops heading to the European theater in WWII. She was a bobby soxer and loved the big band era of music. Sylvia went on to complete a bachelors degree from CCNY and worked in the financial industry primarily in stock and bond trading companies for most of her adult life. Endowed with a lively spirit and sense of humor, she was a quick-witted bookkeeper - with numbers as well as with the spoken word. She met Jacques in Brooklyn, fell deeply in love and married in 1950. They stayed married and in Brooklyn for 66 years raising their family.
When her dearest Jacques passed away on February 10th, Sylvia decided to join him. She passed away suddenly in her apartment approximately 4 hours after her husband.
