She was predeceased by her husband, the late Bernard Wallerstein. She is survived by two children, Stephen Wallerstein and Peggy Kurtz, four grandchildren, Christopher Wallerstein, Sebastian Wallerstein Taulis, Michael Kurtz and Nora Kurtz and three great-grandchildren, Gabriel Tae Wallerstein, Eva Wallerstein Furman, and Mia Hannah Kurtz. A fifth grandchild, Pablo Manonellas Wallerstein, died in 2001.
She and Bernard lived in West Orange, New Jersey.
Jane worked briefly after the Second World War as a journalist. She also worked on sociological research and later became a publicist for a number of non-profits, including the Wayne School District, the Jewish Family Service, the American Red Cross and the New Jersey Symphony Orchestra.
Jane was the president of the Fuld Neighborhood House in Newark and chairwoman of the Catholic-Jewish Dialogue of Essex County.
Jane was an accomplished pianist and an avid reader. She published a number of books including, "Voices from the Paterson Silk Mills" an oral history of a famous strike in the textile industry in Paterson, New Jersey.
Until the day she died at 101, she still continued to play the piano, read the newspaper and follow politics, and she continued to be an avid reader.
She will be greatly missed by her family.
A funeral service will be held at 1:00PM on Thursday at the Bernheim Apter Kreitzman Suburban Funeral Chapel, 68 Old Short Hills Road, Livingston, NJ. Interment will in Oheb Shalom Cemetery, Hillside, NJ.
