Jay graduated from Lehigh University with a degree in Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering. He went on to receive a Master in Mechanical Engineering from NJIT and an MBA from American University. He held a number of positions in Engineering and sales prior to his decision to take over the family Office Supply Business with his brother Lenny. That Entrepreneurial endeavor lasted over 20 years. (He and his brother are still very close.) After that time, he pursued his love of teaching, both as a full time teacher and then as a permanent substitute.
Jay was a devoted older sibling to his two younger brothers, Lenny and Archie, as well as a very devoted son. His devotion to the family was unmatched. Much was expected of him at a very young age. He never said no when asked to help out. Jay met Ina Harrison, the love of his life, when they were both teenagers at Hickory Hill Country Club Pool. It was love at first splash. They married in 1961 and their love affair lasted 60 plus years. Jay and Ina brought son Jeff and daughter Beth into the world. There was nothing more important to Jay than his family.
Throughout his working years, Jay was dedicated to giving to others. He was involved in numerous nonprofit organizations, too many to list. He was an avid bicyclist, hiker, birder, dog lover (he rescued numerous Boxers), and classical music lover. He was an active member of the Morris Area Freewheelers (bicycle club) for over 30 years both as a participant and a ride leader.
Jay is survived by his loving wife Ina, his two children Jeff Grossman (wife Lisa Galper), and
Beth Lima (husband Vinny). His much adored five grandchildren: Alanna Grossman, Rachel
Lima, Vincent Lima, Natalie Lima and Alexandra Lima. His two brothers Archie Grossman and Lenny Grossman (wife Debra). His niece Halle Grossman and Nephew Rob Grossman. And his beloved devoted canine best friend Elsa.
To honor Jay’s life he would appreciate donations to: Horizons Newark - Helping children from under-resourced communities to discover the joy of learning or Interfaith Food Pantry of Morris County-A leader in the fight against hunger.
