Jay Martin Jennis passed away peacefully at home on November 24, 2019. He was born in Newark, NJ on September 19, 1927 and moved to Maplewood shortly thereafter. He graduated from Columbia High School and earned his engineering degree from The Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 1948.
Jay was very active in his community, serving on many boards including Daughters of Israel, JESPY House, Temple Oheb Shalom and the Oheb Shalom Cemetery Committee.
He was co-owner of J and J Corporation and KarKwik. After retiring from business, Jay spent time tutoring high school students in math and volunteering at St. Barnabas Medical Center. Jay had a lifelong passion for gardening. He loved planning trips and traveling with family.
Jay was extremely gregarious and always happy to make a new friend. He is survived by his wife of 62 years Thelma (nee) Denburg and children Andrew Jennis and wife Harriett Shugarman, Richard Jennis and wife Bonnie Steinberg, and Lisa Jennis and husband Michael Greenland. He was an active and loving grandfather of 6 - Noah, Elliot, Aaron, Alana, Alexa and Isaac.
Jay was loved and will be missed by all.
