

Joan Finkelstein, 87, of South Orange, New Jersey passed away on September 9, 2017. A loving mother of three children, grandmother of five, and great-grandmother of five. Joan was raised in the Bronx, New York. She married Walter Finkelstein in 1952 and moved her family from the Bronx to Long Beach, New York. While in Long Beach, Joan was an active member of Young Israel of Long Beach and the Hebrew Academy of Long Beach. She worked as a travel agent for many years.
Joan moved to Springfield, New Jersey where she was an active member of Congregation Beth Israel in Scotch Plains. She was a regular participant at her local Hadassah and Jewish Community Center.
Joan enjoyed both the theater and the opera. She was a regular player of Canasta and Mah-Jongg. She enjoyed spending time with – and cooking for – her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She is survived by her children Susan (Roy) Summer, Barbara Wyckoff, Richard (Deborah) Finkelstein; grandchildren Allison Summer, Jason (Pessie) Finkelstein, Daniel Finkelstein, Rachel Summer, and Alex (Miriam) Finkelstein; and her great-grandchildren Yehuda Finkelstein, Shoshana Finkelstein, Tani Finkelstein, Tzvi Finkelstein, and Baby Boy Finkelstein. She was predeceased by her husband Walter Finkelstein, sister and brother-in-law Phyllis and Julius Rubin, son-in-law Robert Wyckoff, and great-grandson Gavriel Finkelstein.
