Joan Handler

Joan Handler, 84, of West Orange, New Jersey, passed away peacefully on February 15, 2026. Born on April 6, 1941, in Brooklyn, New York, Joan built a life centered on love, family, and lasting friendships.

Joan was a devoted and loving wife to William Handler, a proud and caring mother to her two sons, Michael (Tracey) and Matthew (Carrie), and found her greatest joy in being a grandmother to her grandchildren, Abigail, Elley, Gabriel, and Grayson.

She is also survived by her beloved sister, Shelley (Jan), and her nieces, Emily and Kate.

Joan will be remembered for her warmth and unwavering devotion to her family and friends and will be deeply and forever missed by all who knew her.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of your choice in her memory.

A funeral service will be held on Sunday, February 22, 2026 at 10 am at Bernheim-Apter-Kreitzman Suburban Funeral Chapel, 68 Old Short Hills Road, Livingston, NJ, 07039. The family will be receiving guests from 9:15am-9:45am. The burial will follow at King Solomon Memorial Park, 550 Dwasline Rd, Clifton, NJ, 07012.

Shiva will be held at the home of William Handler, 14 Colony Drive East, West Orange NJ 07052, on Sunday and Monday from 2-7pm.
