Joan Parsonnet

Joan Parsonnet (Nee Grossblatt), wife of the late Victor J Parsonnet, died peacefully at the age of 96, on Saturday September 27, 2025. She is survived by her brother Norman Grossblatt; her children: Lissa Parsonnet Barbanel (Joseph Barbanel), Abby Parsonnet, and Jon Parsonnet (Michele Parsonnet); five grandchildren: Dorrie Barbanel (Jeremy Ershow), Ricky Barbanel, Halley Parsonnet, Bri Hopkins (Zane Hopkins) and Schuyler Parsonnet; and four great grandchildren: Ellie, Zachary and Dara Ershow and Jemma Hopkins.

Joan was born in Newark, NJ, the daughter of Dr Philip and Dorothy Grossblatt, and grew up in Newark, Baltimore, and Manhattan Kansas (which she referred to as “God’s gift to hell”). She graduated with a BA in English from the University of Maryland, and worked as an editor, and then ran fashion shows before leaving to pursue her greatest aspirations: marriage and motherhood. As a mother she was PTA president, brownie leader, cub-scout leader, and was in all ways actively involved in her children’s lives, supporting and promoting their interests and passions. She brought that love and enthusiasm to her role as grandmother and great-grandmother as well. Joan was known for her sense of humor, her love of family, her boundless energy, and her wisdom, as well as her amazing hand-eye coordination which enlivened her many games of catch, with three generations of children, as well as her tennis game which she played until the age of 88.

Funeral services will be on Monday, September 29, 2025 at 1PM at Bernheim Apter Kreitzman Suburban Funeral Chapel, 68 Old Short Hills Road, Livingston, NJ 07039. The family will be receiving guests from 12:15PM to 12:45PM. The burial will follow at B'nai Abraham Memorial Park, 2600 US-22 STE E, Union, NJ 07083.

Shiva will be Monday after the burial until 8pm and Tuesday from 1PM-3PM ad 5PM-7:30PM at the home of Lissa and Joe Barbanel.
