Joseph N. Battista, 56, of Livingston, passed away on Tuesday, April 20, 2021, in St. Barnabas Medical Center in Livingston.

Born in Orange, NJ, to the late Armondo and Lucille (nee Cortellacci) Battista, the family moved to Livingston in 1967 when Joey was just 2 years old.

Joey was currently the co-owner and project manager of BMC Construction, LLC in Orange.

“DJ Joey B”, as he was known in the music world, was a legendary nightclub DJ throughout NJ for the past 40 years. Simultaneously, he was an iconic rock & roll band drummer throughout NJ, dubbed “Joe Zep” since the early age of 15.

Joey never turned his back on a worthy cause. He generously and freely gave of his time and talent whenever he was called upon. He was greatly respected and will be missed by all who knew and loved him.

He was the loving brother of Samuel J. Battista and wife Libby, Michael M. Battista and companion Jeanie, Raymond A. Battista and wife Susan, and Lisa A. Battista; cherished uncle of Brian (Catherine), Stephen (Tarah), Samuel (fiancé Andrea), and Michael Gerardo (Thomas O’Hara); adored great uncle of Julianna, Brandon, Gavin, Vivian, and Falon; and dear partner of Gwen Motley.

To the Battista Family,

I want send my deepest sympathies to you at this sad time. My brother, Steve Bode and Joey B were childhood friends, we lived just a few blocks away in Livingston, and I remember that one of my classmates at Harrison Elementary was Joey's sister Lisa. I was so saddened to hear of Joey's passing when my brother told me. I also used to be a customer at Emerald Cleaners, in West Orange and I remember how friendly Joey and his employees treated their customers.😀 May Joey rest in God's Peace and may your family be comforted at this time, knowing what a great guy he was and that he is watching over you all.
God bless you, Sincerely, Susan Bode 🙏😇🎶

Dear Joey, I watched your services streaming on line. I made sure to be on 10 minutes before 10am when it started. It really gave me comfort since I couldn't physically be there as Sal & I have been living in Hilton Head Island, SC for three years now. We came down here to take care of my parents. My dad sadly passed of dementia and My Mom passed of cancer which she had for years and beat it many times... This little soul just couln't take it this time. it was so sad for It was a very beautiful service. Sad but very touching. Watching Marc, one your best buddies and one of Sal's as well, speak about you and the great life you lived not to mention the great joy you brought to so many of your friends and family was right on track. Hearing Renee and Gwen speak of you was heart wrenching. I thought back to the Captain G days when Renee' would be there with you while you were doing your thing "JOEY STYLE" spinning the best of the best, and Renee and I would hang out together while you got everyone on the dance floor!! EVen if it was just us. Laura and Joanna were there too. Those were the days though it didn't last that long, my fondest memories were of you DJ-ing every family event. My Father's 50th! His retirement... My Mom's as well. and my two sisters birthdays. Not sure if they were 30th or 40th lol! Never the less they were held at Rascals downstairs in the club. Such fun times we had. I have videos of those day... Somewhere...

I just want to say i'm deeply saddened on Joeys loss. Theres' a reason why Billy Joel wrote only the good die young. I really didn't know Joe well and to this day i can't remember where we met probably The Hall on South Orange Avenue. . All i remember was how nice of a Guy he was. I would see him from time to time and he would alway's say hello.

Lisa, Michael, Ray, and Sammy,

My deepest heartfelt condolences to you all.
Reflecting back on my childhood, my family always thought of all of you as family.
Joey had a heart of gold.
He lit up the room when he entered it.
He made you laugh till you cried.
He was loved and will be so missed.

My love and prayers to you all.
