Joshua Aaron Gendel, a long-time resident of Livingston, was born May 11, 1999 and died April 30, 2021 at home with his family by his side.

Joshua lived life full of love and laughter. His full-body smile lit up the world. His family and friends, school, Temple B’nai Abraham, The Friendship Circle, and anything Disney were at the center of his world. Josh had a unique ability to share his love of companionship like no other. His enduring gift to all who met him is a renewed resolve for perseverance and strength.

He is also survived by his Aunt Debbie Lowen, Aunt Karen Fay, and Uncle Jeffrey and Aunt Wendy Gendel, cousins, Marc Fay, Simon and Ariela Lowen, and Jared and Audrey Gendel. And Joshua will be missed greatly by his loving service dog, Goldie.

I am so sorry I am just seeing this today. I would have zoom shivaed to send you all a virtual hug. Josh was a bright & shining star in my life. Your love for him was a true inspiration. You all taught us in the PICU the meaning of being an advocate for your child. I learned so much from your family. The joy you could see in Josh’s eyes made it easy to come to work. May God bless you all. Sending love, prayers, and hugs.

Dear Erica and Steven,

My heart is broken for you. You showed me what it means to be parents. True unconditional love. You didn’t stop at anything when it came to Joshua.

Joshua lit up whatever space he was in and his smile will stay with me forever. It was an honor to know Joshua from the Friendship Circle and he will remain in a special place in my heart. May you be comforted among the mourners of Zion and Jerusalem.

Dear Erica and Steven
I am so very sorry to hear about Josh. I remember him as a little boy who was so loving and sweet. I loved seeing him everyday at school with his great big smile. He was always so happy and the best dressed. I remember seeing pictures of his Bar Mitzvah and how handsome he was. I know what a proud moment that was for your family. I've thought of you over the years and all the conversations we had when you would come and pick him up at school. My sincere condolences to your family
May Josh"s memory be a blessing💜

I only met your beloved Josh a couple of times but I will never forget the biggest smile I have ever seen. His whole body seemed to have a certain joy. My heart goes out to Erica and Steve and our beloved friends of so many years , Grandparents Marilyn & Bobby. With so much love, Elise (and so much love from the past, Cantor Elliot) Levine

Erica and Steven, our hearts are broken for your loss. Joshua was pure light. He was a joy to our world, and we are all so much richer for having known him. I do not understand the mysteries of this world, but what I do know is that Joshua was blessed to have you as his parents. May God watch over your home as you watched over Joshua. And may Joshua’s soul find comfort in God’s eternal embrace .

I remember your wonderful family so well. Several years ago, I volunteered to help the teachers in the Theater Arts Class for young people with special needs at the Paper Mill Playhouse. You three were wonderful - two genuinely loving , supportive parents with their son who was so genuinely happy. I will never forget the three of you. You were an inspiration to all.
