Joyce Phillips Feinstein, 68, formerly of Brooklyn NY, died on Sunday, April 30th after a 3-year battle with ovarian cancer. She was married to her loving husband Michael Feinstein for 38 years. They raised their two children first in New York and then lived in Millburn Township for the past 34 years. Joyce defined herself, more than anything else, as a loving and devoted mother. Her children, Amanda (37) and Matthew (32), were the great joys of her life. She is also survived by her daughter-in-law Jennifer and her 13 year-old cock-a-poo Barley.
She was a graduate of Brooklyn College and had a Masters Degree in Speech Pathology from NYU. She was a deeply committed teacher who loved her students and used her innate creativity to bring joy into the classroom. Joyce was always described as kind, thoughtful, dynamic, incredibly strong, and of course, well-dressed. She had a wonderful sense of humor and loved making everyone around her smile. Some of her other greatest joys were traveling to Europe with her husband, dining out, and cooking for her family. She had a love for life and made friends everywhere she went – from fellow travelers on vacation to store clerks.
Joyce was the youngest of three children, survived by two older brothers: Michael Phillips and his wife Barbara, who was like a sister to Joyce, as well as their children Brad and Julie and her family; Stephen Phillips and his wife Colette. She was a deeply committed daughter to her parents Jack and Ruth Phillips, both deceased.
The funeral will be held at Bernheim Apter Kreitzman Suburban Funeral Chapel in Livingston, NJ on Wednesday, May 3rd at 10 a.m.
