Joyce Weinstein, 89, of Livingston and formerly Mountainside and Spray Beach, N.J., passed away on July 2nd, 2026. Born in Brooklyn, N.Y., she was a loving wife to her husband of 58 years, Dr. Morton S. Weinstein, sister to Dr. Irwin D. Bernstein (Ilene), and devoted mother to her three children, Eric S. Weinstein (Nancy), Michael L. Weinstein (Pam), and Dr. Ellen M. Kornmehl (Ernest). The granddaughter of Composer Cantor Israel Schorr, her love of Jewish music led her to be an active soloist in the Temple Beth Ahm Choir, Springfield, NJ and member of the Shiru Nah Women’s Volunteer Choir sharing her love of music with others at nursing homes and community members around the state. She served on the Boards of Temple Beth Ahm and Jewish Family Service of Central New Jersey and actively volunteered in the JFS Food Pantry and Meals on Wheels.
Joyce graduated from Midwood High School in Brooklyn before attending Brooklyn College. She then pursued a degree in Dental Education from Columbia University, and practiced as a dental hygienist. She was photographed early in her career in Newsweek supporting water fluoridation during the polarizing protests of the late 1960s. She was a gifted artist engaging in figurative drawing and painting often donating her work to benefit school organizations. Joyce was known to complete the New York Times crossword in ink in one sitting and for her self-deprecating wit.
In addition to her three children, she is survived by seven grandchildren; her great pride and joy, Max, Sam, Lia, Charlotte, Abby, Maddie, and Jake. They remember how she placed love of family above all.
