Judy Schlenger Heyman, born on September 1, 1923 died on January 7, 2018 at the age of 94 years old. She loved the 2 men in her life; Ken Heyman her husband of 37 years until his untimely death in 1982, and then Phil Lieberman, her partner for 25 years. She graduated from Wellesley College in 1945 and made some life long friends from her college years. She was a pioneer in learning how to be a computer programmer and this was a career she loved, until she retired from NYU in 1985. She was an avid tennis player, skilled bridge player, and enjoyed scrabble. She was also very involved as a volunteer and leader in the Jewish community for many years. She remained strong until Parkinson’s illness caused her to be greatly diminished in the last 2 years of her life. She never complained and coped as best she could with the many challenges of her illness.
She leaves her partner, Phil Lieberman, her 3 children and their spouses: John Heyman (Nita), Ken Heyman (Mimi) and Pattie Heyman (Peter Lowber), 5 grandchildren (Jeff, Jen, Steven, Keith and Alexander), and 3 great grandchildren (Dylan, JJ and Zoey), her sister Margery Weil and her brother Donald Schlenger (Linda). She was greatly beloved by her family and we will miss her deeply.
Graveside services will be held 11:00am today at Riverside Cemetery, 12 Market Street, Saddle Brook. Arrangements are under the direction of the Bernheim Apter Kreitzman Suburban Funeral Chapel, Livingston.
Memorial donations may be made in her memory to the Jewish Federation of Greater MetroWest, 901 Route 10, Whippany, NJ 07981 or to Temple Sharey Tefilo-Israel 432 Scotland Road, South Orange, NJ 07079.
