One of my fondest and earliest  childhood memories of Aunt Kitty is when Uncle Gus came to our house in his beautiful convertible one day when I was about 3 years old.  For the first time ever, I was going out somewhere without my parents. It was a great adventure for me, made even more exciting by being told I was going to meet someone special.  I’ll never forget Uncle Gus pulling into the Howard Johnson’s restaurant parking lot, picking me up and walking into what I thought was a beautiful castle. To my delight, we were greeted by a princess. You can imagine my joy when she later became my Aunt Kitty! I told everyone my aunt was a princess and lived in a castle. Everyone thought that was cute, so it wasn’t until I was a bit older that I realized Howard Johnson’s was a restaurant, not where Aunt Kitty lived. By then, her bubbly personality and wonderful fashion style led me to believe she was a movie star. She was always smiling, dressed to the nines and always knew just what to say to make people happy. She always lit up the room upon entering and I picture her doing that still. She was one of a kind.

I met Kitty one day when she was walking around the neighborhood looking for a friend for her son Joe.  I had a son Joey's age name Dan.  Lo and be hold we became friends instead.  Our friendship lasted through many years of lunches, sharing the "what should I do" and good stories.  We had great trust in each other.  When we went to lunch we would stop at the cemetary to say hello to Gus.  She would say her jewish prayers and I would say my catholic ones.  We were so different and we respected each other for who we were.  I have missed her greatly the last few years and I will ever forget her.

My heart is hurting, I worked with Mrs. Arnone at the Dept. of Human Services, Elizabeth, NJ, many years ago, She was so nice to me, I hated when she retired. I missed you after you left and I am really going to miss you now, always in my prayers.

My Mom loved Kitty - she used to say that when she was a girl Kitty looked like a movie star, but would also gladly sit on the floor and play with her.  And her glamour and and ebullient personality were in full effect when I was a kid. She was a force of nature and a lot of fun.  I shall always remember her that way.

Jackie  so sorry for your loss.  Your mom made such an impression on me as a young girl.  To  this day I always have my makeup and earrings on, you never know when someone may drop in.  She was  a beautiful woman, inside and out, and a great friend to my mom.  Even though they were total opposites they got along so wonderfully.  Every time I use my Cutco Cutlery I think of her since I bought them at your house on Chestnut Street.  The house with the fancy Orange and Purple rooms.  Take care and know she will never be forgotten.


I have fond memories of Kitty. 
When my family used to visit Pearl in South Amboy, we would occasionally see her.
She was a force, bright, happy, interested in you and what you were doing.
Mostly, I will remember her smile and love of life.

We Loved Aunt Kitty, not only as an aunt but like a super special friend when she would come visit.  She has so much patience teaching us monopoly when we were young kids and would play for hours & hours.  From roller skating to the parks to visits with her to San Francisco.  My mom & dad loved it when her and Jackie would come visit.  Aunt Kitty would give my mom a break in the kitchen, and make amazing lasagna for us.  My dad was so proud to have her as an older sister full of energy, smilies, laughter and always dressed up ready to go out to the next event. Aunt Kitty even took me and and bought this soccer goalie jersey for me when I was about 10 in 1980, and had our last name put on the back of the shirt.  I still have it my closet. I will remember you always  and it puts a smile on my face remembering all the times  you would come out to visit us in California.

Kitty was a delight for so many of us who had the opportunity to spend  some time with her.

And as someone wrote — her lasagna was legendary.   I think I have her recipe….it goes on for 3 or 4 pages!!!

The woman I owe for my love of fashion ❤️.  Aunt Kitty was one of my favorite influences growing up.  She quickly taught me how important it was to always coordinate your outfits and accessories, including her Gucci watch with the coordinating colored faces to match her mood.  Her flare and love of life was contagious, and no wonder why people enjoyed being in her presence.  I remember her voice so distinctively, like it was yesterday.  She shared with me so many stories from her past and taught me what to aspire to in my future through her experiences.  I will never forget her!  May her spirit live on through her children and may she forever Rest In Peace.   Love, Tiffany 


My Dear Aunt Kitty was such a very special and unforgettable person!   She was always full of such exuberance and made everyone around her feel so special.  Always dressed to the T, I remember her saying “now my dear you must always look your best because you never know who you may bump into”.   She was a wonderful role model and  someone to emulate. I first met Mrs. Arnone back when Jackie and I were in the 6th grade.  Mrs. Arnone ran a baton twirling club and I for sure signed right up for it.  Her enthusiasm for baton twirling inspired me to continue twirling though high school.

So this is how I will remember her with a big smile.  Rest In Peace Mrs. Arnone.  Watch over your family!

There’s magic in a mother’s touch and sunshine in her smile. There’s love in everything she does to make our lives worthwhile.
We can find both hope and courage just by looking into her eyes. Her laughter is a source of joy. Her words are warm and wise. 
There is a kindness and compassion to be found in her embrace. And we see the light of heaven shining from a mother’s face. 

Kathleen Arnone was born August 16th, 1930, in Hajduhadhaz, Hungary and lived there until she was 7 years old. Her mom named, in Hungarian “Katalin,” however in America she became Kathleen, and her sister gave her the nickname Kitty and it stuck for a long time until she got older and moved into a senior community. Then she felt she should be called Kathleen. When she was 5, her father’s brother brought him over to America to work and save his money so he could bring over his family. They came on the last boat that went to Ellis Island. Arriving in America, they had 3 rooms as a family in her teens, her family bought their first house, she shared a room and a bed with her sister until she was married! Her sister was only 15 months older than her, and she had a brother 5 years younger. Anything about World War 2 reminds her of her childhood. Her grandparents died in the Holocaust. Her dad was a tinsmith and roofer. He worked for himself. It was his own small business. She loved twirling a baton and became the drum majorette! When she was 19 years old, her and her partner got a contract over the other applicants to dance at Grossingers, but her dad died so she had to go home to help her mom. That ended her dreams of fame and fortune. She wound up marrying my dad. They got married on 11/17/1952 in Woodbridge, NJ and then eloped and moved to Florida. My mom went on to be a Den Mother, President of the PTA, a twirling teacher, and worked for Union County for 18 years. She was always very warm, giving, and helping anyone and everybody she could! She was very much loved! 

This photo is how I want to remember Kathleen! I knew Kathleen for about 30 years as my Mother-in-Law.  She was someone that always put others first and had incredible energy. As in the photo you can see... she was compared to the look and appeal of Zsa Zsa Gabor!  Her outward appearance was always polished. Everything had to match. Nails to purse and shoes. She had a never-ending smile that was always looking to bring you into her circle of energetic fun.
She came from humble eastern European roots and lived through the horrors of WW2. Her story would make an amazing historical documentary. That difficult story never faded her zest for life, and she made it a point to share that spark and smile with all she met. That smile, that energy and her caring ways will be greatly missed!

Dearest Mother, thank you for your Wonderful Love, I'm so Greatful for everything, you were not only my Mother but a Best Friend, Mom was so Selfless, I would say "Whatever it Takes"" God Bless You Mom I'm happy you didn't suffer too Much, and I Apologize being Distant in your Later Years. But there wasn't a day that went by I didn't think of You, I'm a very Lucky Son, Thank You,  David. On a Silly Note now you're with Dad, and in his Fashion He's Asking "What the Hell took you so Long" RIP MOM God Bless You, Thank You Jackie and Bobby.

Many of us know Kathleen Arnone by several different names… Kitty, Mrs. Arnone, mom, and grandma, which is what I have always lovingly referred to her by.

The grandma I remember is a woman who was filled with joy, compassion, and fun! Going to visit grandma and grandpa was always something I looked forward to.

I have a safe space in my mind that I oftentimes go to. And this safe space is actually my grandparent’s home. I consider this place safe because of all the love and good times that were shared under that roof. These were some of the best times of my life.

Many of my earliest memories involve my grandma in her home in Roselle Park. I think back to playing stratego in her home and playing in the park across the street from it. I think back to spending time with her in the kitchen and also when she would be getting ready in the morning…

My grandma was a truly charming woman with a heart of gold. Those who had the privilege of knowing her can all attest to her giving nature and impressive culinary skills. I will truly miss her homemade lasagna!

She may be grandma to me or mom to you but she’s “great grandma” to our new child, Maya. And it brings me great joy knowing that they were able to see and interact with each other recently. The fact that my grandma will live on through my daughter brings me great joy.

I’m sure I speak for all of us when I say that she will be sorely missed…. And although she is gone now, it certainly does not mean she will ever be forgotten. She will undoubtedly live on through all of us. And I intend to be the best I can be each and every day to honor her memory.

When I first met Mrs. Arnone, she was older, however, when I went to visit she was always friendly and asked how I was doing! 

When I would visit Mrs. Arnone, I will always remember the great conversations she and I would have! What also stands out is that her daughter, Jackie, and I would play Monopoly with Mrs. Arnone and Mrs. Arnone would always win! 

Her daughter Jackie did an outstanding job of making sure her mom was cared for and went out of her way to be sure to visit her mom at every opportunity.

I will miss the conversations and playing Monopoly, however, what I will miss most is spending time visiting Mrs. Arnone! God Bless; Bobby Doran.
