Larry Green, age 78 passed away at home on Tuesday, March 1, 2022. He was born to Irving and Anne Green in Brooklyn, NY, where he was raised before moving to New York City. Larry moved to Maplewood, NJ in 1987 where he lived for 33 years before moving to West Orange a year ago.
Larry was the beloved husband for 38 years to Marilyn Danzig, loving father of Beth Welch (Thomas) and Eric Green (Leah), devoted grandfather of Amy Welch and Harrison Green, and cherished brother of Calvin Green (Judy).
Larry graduated from Tilden High School (Brooklyn, NY) class of 1961, Brooklyn College (Brooklyn, NY) class of 1966 with a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology and Anthropology, and from University of Michigan (Ann Arbor, MI) class of 1968 with a Masters in Social Work, Mental and Social Health Services and Allied Professions. He worked in the VA Outpatient Clinic in Brooklyn, NY as a Psychiatric social worker from 1968 to 1977, and for the VA Hospital in Bedford, MA as a Social worker from 1977 to 1981, then as a Social Worker for St. Luke's Hospital in NYC from 1983 to 1988 and as the Site Director for Carrier Foundation in Paramus, NJ from 1994 to 1996. During this time he also worked in private practice, ultimately retiring in 2010. Larry authored his memoir "Once Upon a Wounded Heart", which was released in 2013.
A memorial service for Larry will be held Friday, March 4, 2022 at 11:00 AM at Bernheim-Apter-Kreitzman Suburban Funeral Chapel, 68 Old Short Hills Road, Livingston, NJ 07039.
