Dr. Lawrence B. Stein

Lawrence was the beloved husband of Naomi for 60 years, loving father of Dina Propp (Douglas), Ethan Stein (Shoshana Landow), and Eric Stein (Susan Josephs), devoted grandfather of Ilana, Jeremy, and Daniel Propp, Philip and Malcolm Landow Stein, and Stel Stein, and the cherished brother of Marilyn Stillman (Jerold) and the late Judith Graceman.

Born in St. Paul Minnesota, Dr. Stein graduated from the University of Minnesota Magna Cum Laude and was elected to Phi Betta Kappa. He received his M.D. degree from the University of Minnesota Medical School with high honors including Alpha Omega Alpha. He completed his postgraduate training in internal medicine and gastroenterology at Albert Einstein Hospital and Jacobi Hospital in the Bronx, NY which was interrupted by two years in the USAF. He was on the full time faculty at Albert Einstein for two years and entered private practice with Affiliates in Gastroenterology in 1974, when he moved to South Orange, NJ.

Sailing, gardening, photographing, reading, playing the piano, going to the theatre, music and art are some of the things that he enjoyed during his lifetime. He was also a long time active member of Congregation Oheb Shalom in South Orange.

A Funeral Service will be held at Bernheim-Apter-Kreitzman Suburban Funeral Chapel, 68 Old Short Hills Road, Livingston, NJ on June 7, 2026 at 11:00 am. Burial will follow at Oheb Shalom Cemetery, 1321 N Broad St, Hillside, NJ.
