Lenore A. Dodick passed away peacefully on August 24, 2024 at the age of 94. Born in New York City, she spent most of her childhood in West Hempstead, New York before graduating from Syracuse University and Teacher’s College at Adelphi.
While working as an elementary school teacher on Long Island, Lenore went on a blind date with a Canadian optometrist named Murray Dodick, who was on a flight layover in New York en route to Puerto Rico. Lenore and Murray quickly fell in love, got married and moved to Thunder Bay, Ontario (then Fort William) to begin their life together. Two children, David and Helen, soon followed.
An only child, Lenore relished being part of her husband’s large, close-knit family. Lenore was a devoted wife and mother, a lover of the arts, and a prodigy at word play, often earning accolades for her witty entries to the Toronto Globe & Mail. As her children grew older, she began assisting Murray in his optometric practice. Upon retirement, Lenore and Murray moved to the United States and settled in Livingston, New Jersey. There she re-immersed herself in her favorite college hobby, playing bridge.
Lenore is predeceased by her parents, Ann and Edwin Klein, by her aunt and “second mother” Lillian Provost and by her beloved husband Murray. She is survived by her son David and daughter-in-law Julianna, of Menlo Park, CA, and by her daughter Helen, son-in-law Christopher, and granddaughter Paula of Mendham, NJ.
The family will be receiving guests for Lenore on Sunday, September 1, 2024 from 10:15 AM to 10:45 AM at Bernheim-Apter-Kreitzman Suburban Funeral Chapel, 68 Old Short Hills Road, Livingston, New Jersey 07039, followed by a funeral service at 11:00 AM. Burial will be in Beth Israel Cemetery, 19 Ridgedale Avenue, Hanover, New Jersey 07927.
