Born in Jersey City, Lorraine grew up in Clifton and lived in Kinnelon and Pompton Plains before moving to Roseland 5 years ago.
She graduated from New Jersey State Teacher’s College, now known as Montclair State University, in 1950 with a Bachelor of Arts in Elementary Education and graduated with a Masters Degree in Science Education from Long Island University-Rockland.
Lorraine’s career in education spans more than 45 years as a teacher in the Kinnelon School District and then the Wyckoff School District retiring in 1997. She is credited with starting the Gifted and Talented Program in the Wyckoff School System.
She was happiest spending quality time with her beloved extended Spiotta family. She also loved dogs having nine different dogs over the course of her life.
She was predeceased by her parents Delphina (Gatto) and Dante Spiotta, and siblings George, Eleanor, Robert, and John Spiotta.
She was the beloved mother of Leonard (Lee) Marcy, Jr. and Eric Marcy, Sr., loving mother in law of Karen Marcy, cherished grandmother of Eric Marcy, Jr., and adored aunt of many nieces and nephews.
In an effort to keep everyone safe from the COVID-19 pandemic, a Celebration of Lorraine’s Life will be held at a later date in Woodstock, N.Y., the center of the extended Spiotta family for over 55 years. Arrangements are being held under the direction of the LaMonica Memorial Home in Livingston.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to New Bridge Services, a 501(c)3 non-profit providing counseling services and supportive housing. Donations may be made at: https://newbridge.org/donate
