Lucy, born on June 29, 1940 to the late Sophy and Robert Allen, was a Livingston, NJ native. She attended Syracuse University as a music major on a full scholarship and was an accomplished pianist. She earned her scholarship performing a technically difficult Rachmaninoff sonata. She taught piano lessons during a career spanning more than 50 years to countless promising students. She also studied the pipe organ. For over 20 years, Lucy played the piano and pipe organ at many local churches. She was a devoted member of the Chamber Music Club. Lucy also enjoyed participating in Book Clubs and was an avid reader.
Lucy thrived participating in athletic activities including swimming, tennis and ice skating. She loved the sun and the ocean and always felt healthier with a tan. Lucy’s passion for athletic activities inspired her family to enjoy them as well. Lucy encouraged her husband, Bob, to learn to skate at age 35, and he went on to play ice hockey in leagues well into his late 60’s. Lucy’s favorite past-time was to visit her four grandchildren.
In recent years, Lucy had been accompanying a skilled singer in performing music programs for residents at various local nursing homes. She very much enjoyed making people happy with music. Audiences were enthralled with her talent.
Not only did Lucy befriend people wherever she went, she had a fondness for animals, treating them with heartfelt kindness, especially her kitties.
We love her and will very much miss her ready smile, incredible courage, beautiful spirit, strength and gentle kindness.
She leaves to grieve her loving husband of 55 years, Bob, her daughter Lesley and son-in-law Manny, her daughter Alison and son-in-law Matt, her brother Jeffrey Allen and sister-in-law Mary Dale, her sister Amy Karr, and grandchildren Melina, Annabel, Ryan and Tessa.
