Madeline, or Mady as her friends called her, was born on February 18, 1943 in Bronx, NY to her parents Larry and Ruth Kannan. She grew up in Flushing Meadows with her sister Trudy and was quite proud of the fact that she used to play hopscotch with Penny Marshall who lived in the area. As a young girl, gifted with creativity, and having a passion for fashion, she attended the High School of Art & Design and then took it upon herself to apply to the Fashion Institute of Technology (FIT) in New York where she graduated from in 1962.
Mady married her first husband soon after college and had two sons, Ken and Dan. She married her second husband, moved to Fort Lee, NJ, and got divorced rather quickly. As a result, she had to work very hard as a single mother to support her children. But third times the charm. As fate would have it, she started working for Steve Gold, the owner of Bloomfield Drapery in Rutherford, NJ. Their relationship bloomed, they got married, the family grew to include Steve’s children as well and they worked together every day of their lives until they moved to Delray Beach, FL.
Mady was sophisticated, but not haughty. She was fashionable, but naturally so. Her artistic talents and sense of creativity were enviable, and she shared her art with friends and family. She had high expectations for herself and her children, and worked hard at everything she did. Traveling the world was her passion and joy. And most of all, Mady loved her family who will all miss her greatly.
Mady is survived by her children Ken (Lisa), Dan, Jen (Will), her grandchildren Sammi, Ryan, Pete, Lily, and Jake and her sister Trudy (Herb).
