Marie was born in Belfast, Northern Ireland on July 18, 1936. She was the youngest of seven children. She moved to the United States in 1959 at the age of 23 and settled in Bloomfield, N.J.
She worked as a telephone operator and waitress at Willie’s Diner in Bloomfield where she met her husband of 59 years, Corinto Ramundo. Together they raised three sons, first in Bloomfield, then moving to East Hanover in 1973. In addition to working at Willie’s until its sale in 1994, Marie spent a significant portion of those years driving her sons to various schools, gyms and fields and bringing them food when they went off to college.
In 1994, Marie and Cory retired to Manasquan where she learned to play tennis and traveled frequently to Melbourne Beach, Florida. Marie had a knack for making friends wherever she went. Everyone loved her brogue and her honesty.
Marie is survived by her husband Cory and two of her sons, Giovanni and his wife Karen, and Paul and his wife Kate. “Ree Ree” was a loving grandmother to her seven grandchildren, Kelly, Will and Christian, and Billy, Cory, Riley and Eliza.
She was predeceased by her youngest son, Bill, as well as her five sisters and brother Arthur Pitts.
The Advanced Memory Research Institute of New Jersey helped prolong Marie’s memory and we will always be grateful. A special thanks to Laura and Natalia who helped take care of Marie when she could not care for herself. We appreciate the care from the hospice nurse Pat and nursing assistant Donna.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Marie’s memory to the Alzheimer Association by going online at alz.org/donate or call 1-800-272-3900.
