Mary A. Magalhaes, age 98, of Bloomfield, NJ, passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, June 21, 2020. Born in Bloomfield, NJ, Mary was a life-long resident of Bloomfield. Born on December 24, 1921, to her late parents Thomas DeRose and Florence (Federico) DeRose. Mary was a waitress at both the Glenwood Diner and Yankee Peddler in Bloomfield for over 50 years, before retiring in 2007. She was loved by all. Mary loved crossword puzzles, gardening, cookbooks, and cooking shows. She was an excellent cook in the kitchen and loved to cook and bake for the family. Mary was the proud matriarch of her family. She adored her children and there was no love that Mary had greater than the love she had for her grandchildren.

Predeceased by her beloved husband Antonio, and her sons, Thomas and Antonio. She was the eldest sister to the late Rose Trabucco, the late Frances DeRose, and her late brother, Anthony DeRose. Mary is survived by her devoted daughters, Debra Magalhaes and Cheryl Gonzalez, and her husband Tony. She is also survived by her loving grandchildren, Mark Magalhaes, Lauren Gonzalez, Anthony Gonzalez, and Rod D’Angerio and his wife MaryKay. Funeral services from the LaMonica Memorial Home, 145 E. Mt. Pleasant Ave., Livingston, NJ, will be private. The funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, June 27th at 11:30 a.m. at St. Anthony of Padua Church, 63 Franklin St., Belleville, NJ, 07109. Interment to follow at Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Bloomfield.

You can tell Mary was loved by the way Debra would talk about her at work most weeks. We all knew the ups and downs and how incredibly resilient she was. Even at 98 it was still a surprise for us all to hear she passed this week. May you all rejoice in her memory.

Mary was a beautiful woman who I had the pleasure to live across the street from my entire childhood. I was best friends with her beautiful daughter Cheryl. Mary was the hardest working single mom, who never let her children go without..,, she was a beautiful soul inside and out. May she rest in eternal peace .. my condolences to her family.. 🙏💗
