Dear family of Mel,
My name is Pauline. I first met Mel when I visited Maria Sorrento. He and I became friends over the years I visited Maria and Mel at the assisted living and then later at the nursing home. We would sit outside, order food and enjoy each others company. He was such an intelligent man, vocabularian,  singer of songs (especially to Maria), 
He spoke up when the situation was not right, he enjoyed time spent with people he cared about and he loved eating. He even said the food was delicious at the nursing home! I looked forward to visiting Melvin and Maria whenever I was able to get to the assisted living and then the nursing home. I did visit him recently, because he was unable to get up, in the wheelchair and travel around like he usually did. He was bedridden after being discharged  home from the hospital. I wanted him to know Maria and I were hoping he would recover and be able to visit again. He asked me to tell Maria “I love you”. I did give Maria the message. We will miss his positive attitude, intelligent conversations, watching him enjoy life and eating as if every meal was from a Michelin star restaurant! What a wonderful friend to have. We shall miss his presence in our lives.

Dear Andy and Lee,
I am so sorry about your dad.  He had so much love for you both.
I watched your dad’s service on line and saw that you knew what a great man he was. Mel loved life and lived for the weekends when you both came to visit him.
When I found out he passed away, I felt as if someone had taken part of my heart out. I spent 10 years of my life with Mel, laughing, singing, eating together, sharing our days together, holding hands. I will love him until the day I die.
