Mireya Altagracia Silva

Mireya Altagracia Silva, 85, passed away at St. Barnabas Medical Center on Thursday, September 24, 2020.

Born in San Pedro de Macoris, Dominican Republic, Mireya came to the United States around 1972, settling in New York City. She raised her daughter, Francia A. Peña, her grandson, Francisco Larancuente, and her granddaughter, Yasmin M. Holguin-Vargas, as well as many nieces and nephews along the way.

She finally made her transition to Livingston, New Jersey where she spent her last days on earth surrounded with the love of her granddaughter Yasmin, grandson-in-law, Argenis, and grandchildren Solangel and Giovanni Vargas.

Mireya worked as a teacher in the Dominican Republic, and a seamstress and Home Health Aide in New York City until her retirement as a Home Health Aide 23 years ago.

She was predeceased by her husband Eusebio “Chevin” Silva and her daughter Francia A. Peña. She is the loving daughter of Carolina Soto and Emelio Peña. She is the feisty grandmother of Yasmin Holguin-Vargas and Francisco Larancuente, dear sister of Jose Dario Soto, Mercedes Castillo, and Ana Teresa Castillo, and cherished great grandmother of Solangel and Giovanni Vargas. She is the aunt and second mom to Esperanza, Jose “Negro,” Juan “Ramon” and Leopordo “Kikío” Soto.
