Miriam was born July 23, 1918, in New York. She spent her childhood in many towns throughout the tri-state area, and eventually her family settled in Morristown, N.J., where she graduated from high school. She was an avid reader and enjoyed spending time in her father's used book shop. In 1941, at a time when only 5 percent of the entire U.S. population pursued higher education, she graduated from Douglass College with a major in French and a minor in Spanish. She used her incredible language skills to work as a translator in the Office of Censorship during World War II. Her love of languages continued throughout her life as she and her late husband, Milton A. Prince, whom she married in 1944, loved to travel around the world. Together, they went on more than two dozen cruises in their lifetimes. During her later years, Miriam was also an avid participant in local French and Spanish conversation clubs in Essex County. She was a member of the League of Women Voters and Hadassah. Miriam is survived by her daughters, Judith Neidenberg of Hillsdale, N.J., and Eleanor Brown, along with her son-in-law, Dr. Martin Brown, of Lafayette Hill, Pa.; her granddaughter, Emily, and her husband Fernando Lopez, granddaughter Jennifer and her husband, Josh Rubin, granddaughter Jamie and her husband, Jeff Engle, and her grandson, Joshua Brown. She is also survived by six great-grandchildren, Daniel and Sofia Lopez, Miles and Elias Rubin, and Maya and Lexi Engle. She was predeceased by her husband, Milton; her sister, Dorothy Turitz, and her son-in-law, Daniel Neidenberg.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Miriam and Milton Prince Memorial Scholarship Fund, Nori Brown, 18 Locust Way, Lafayette Hill, Pa. 19444. The scholarship will help to fund the college education of a needy language student at Plymouth Whitemarsh High School, Lafayette Hill, Pa.
