
She was the loving and devoted mother of Phyllis Levin Ingber (Rick) and David Levin (Kim).She was predeceased by her beloved husband of almost 60 years, Julian Levin. Muriel was the dear sister-in-law of Naomi Jacoby Cohn, wonderful aunt of Robert Jacoby (Kathy) and Laurie Jacoby (Mark) and the
grand aunt of Carolyn and Dean Schneider. Muriel was the daughter of the late Rose
Sadovnick, the granddaughter of the late Joseph and Fanny Stein, and daughter-in-law of the
late Louis and Pauline Levin.
Muriel was born on October 7,1928 and raised in Elizabeth, New Jersey. Her mother died
when she was only 2 years old and she was raised by her maternal grandparents. She always
spoke very lovingly of them and had fond memories of her childhood. She spent summers at
the Jersey Shore and became an excellent swimmer. When she was 13 she rescued a man in
the ocean who got caught in an undertow. Muriel’s love of swimming continued throughout her
life.
Muriel graduated from Battin High school in Elizabeth and went on to study Spanish at the
Latin American Institute in NYC, working as a bilingual secretary. She met the love of her life,
Julian Levin when she was 19 and they married shortly after her 21st birthday. After living in
Stuyvesant Village, Irvington during the early years of her marriage, Muriel and Julian moved to
Livingston where they raised their two children. Muriel resided in Livingston for nearly 57 years
before moving to Crane’s Mill in 2013.
When Muriel was in her early 30s she decided that she wanted a college education. She
attended Kean University, graduating with a BA in Education followed by an MA, becoming a
reading specialist. She taught school in Livingston for many years from elementary through
high school. Muriel’s love of learning, exploring and questioning has always been a big part of
who she was. Muriel had a wonderful way with people, very kind and caring. Muriel always
tried to see the good in people and looked at life in a positive way even when things were
difficult.
Muriel kept herself involved in a variety of activities, becoming president of the PTA, a brownie
leader, volunteering at the polls on election day, was an active member of Temple Emanu-El
and life time member of Hadassah, just to name a few. Muriel was also an excellent baker,
creating desserts that were not only delicious but truly a work of art.
Muriel was an extraordinary woman who faced life with a smile and determination. Her family
and friends meant everything to her.
Her life was a blessing and she will be remembered with much love always.

A graveside service for Muriel will be held Monday, August 7, 2023 at 11:30 AM at B'nai Abraham Cemetery, 2600 Rt 22 East, Union, NJ 07083.
