

Murray Joseph Plishtin, fondly known as Murph, passed away peacefully following an extended period of illness on February 15 at age 81. He was an adoring and devoted husband to Cynthia Harkavy Plishtin, who passed a year ago, loving father to Amy and Bernie and proud grandfather to Bernie’s children Hannah and Sam, dear brother to Nate and Sam who predeceased him, loving in-law, uncle & cousin, and good friend to many.
Murph was born on March 2, 1934 in Newark, NJ to parents Isaac and Gertrude Plishtin, and was happily married for 60 years to Cynthia Harkavy Plishtin, his high school sweetheart. He was a proud graduate of Weequahic HS, received his B.A. from the University of Connecticut and dental degree from the University of Pennsylvania. Murph established his dental practice in West Orange in 1960 and practiced both dentistry and real estate at Weichert Realty until earlier this year. Prior to living in East Hanover, the family resided in Livingston.
Funeral services will be held at 12:30 on Thursday, February 18 at Bernheim-Apter-Kreitzman Funeral Chapel - 68 Old Short Hills Rd, Livingston, NJ. Interment will follow at Oheb Shalom Cemetery, 1321 N. Broad St, Hillside, NJ. Shiva will be observed on Friday Feb. 19, 11am – 4pm and Saturday, Feb. 20, 2pm – 8pm at his family residence.
