Murray "Leibe" Sternberg

Murray Sternberg, age 90, of West Caldwell, New Jersey passed away on Monday, September 27, 2021. Murray was born February 28, 1931.

A funeral service for Murray will be held Thursday, September 30, 2021 at 11:00 AM at Bernheim-Apter-Kreitzman Suburban Funeral Chapel, 68 Old Short Hills Road, Livingston, NJ 07039. The service will be livestreamed at http://webcast.dignitymemorial.com/events/viewer/61183/hash:D2D80F7BA3CD580B

Murray was born in the Bronx, NY into an ultraorthodox family and community. He attended yeshiva and went to public high school in Brooklyn. He served in the army in Germany during peacetime. Engineering captured both his intellect and his imagination. He was forever indebted to City Colleges of New York, where he got a Bachelor’s in accounting and went on to pursue a Master’s in Electrical Engineering, with a career beginning at RCA. As NASA cut back on its contracts, he transitioned to teaching math. He endeared himself to all with his engaging smile and showed his love by repairing everything and anything for everyone. Other passions included watercolor painting, photography, hiking and camping, birding, watching sports, as well as cooking and family simchas.

He was predeceased by his first wife, Myra (Greenspoon) Sternberg, He is survived by his wife, Phyllis Novick, three children from his first marriage, David (Lisa), Dr. Wendy and Michael (Anita) Sternberg and 5 Grandchildren He also leaves behind his beloved sister Roslyn Dayan. His memory will be cherished and the gleam in his eye missed dearly.

Shiva will be observed at the home of Michael Sternberg on September 30, 2021 from 6:30 pm - 9:00 pm and at the home of Robin Amster on October 1, 2021 to October 7, 2021 from 1:00 pm to 5:00 pm and October 2, 2021 to October 7, 2021 from 6:30 pm - 9:00 pm.
