Myrna Francine Balaban, 86, died on Wednesday, February 19, 2020 at Duke Raleigh Hospital, Raleigh, NC. She was born August 29, 1933, the daughter of Anna and Leo Dumbroff and James Zimetbaum. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Sidney Balaban, and her sister Eileen Newman.
Myrna was born in Newark and lived many years in Hillside before retiring to Sarasota, Fl. In her last years she moved to Raleigh, NC to be closer to her son. She taught second and fourth grade in Hillside and Bloomfield for over 30 years and was a long time hospital volunteer in Sarasota. She loved to travel with the love of her life, her husband Sidney. Among the joys she experienced later in life was the adoption of their dog Ashley. She will always be remembered as someone who was loving, kind, and always considerate of others.
Myrna is survived by a son, Steven Hymanson and his husband Thomas McKeon, a daughter Lori Dorfman, her husband Mat and their children Allison and Jake, a sister Judy Kessler and her husband Larry, a brother Erwin B. Dumbroff, and many nieces and nephews.
