
Myron Coopersmith, of Livingston New Jersey, passed away March 7 at the age of 88. Born in Manhattan, Myron married the love of his life Judith Cohen whom he met while ice skating in Central Park and together they celebrated 67 years of marriage.
A proud graduate of Stuyvesant High School, he received his Bachelor of Science degree from Brooklyn College and a PhD in Organic Chemistry from Columbia University. He went on to have a long and successful career first as a scientist and then for the majority of time in management with Exxon Chemical, being a rare person to work for only a single company throughout his entire career.
Known for his boisterous sense of humor, friendly teasing and use of nicknames for everyone, he was always the center of family gatherings. He had a passion for travelling, the New York Yankees, golf and life in general but most of all for his family and friends, who deeply loved him.
He is survived by his wife Judith Coopersmith, son Craig Coopersmith, daughter-in-law Lois Spritzer, daughter-in-law Terri Coopersmith, grandchildren Danielle Coopersmith and spouse Brett Edlbeck, Andrew Coopersmith, Zachary Coopersmith and Talia Coopersmith and sister-In-law Hilda (“Stephie”) Auerbach. He was preceded in death by his beloved son Steven Coopersmith.
In lieu of flowers the family requests donations to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation or a charity of one’s choice.
The family will be receiving guests at Bernheim-Apter-Kreitzman Suburban Funeral Chapel, 68 Old Short Hills Rd, Livingston, New Jersey 07039, on March 10, 2026, from 10:15 am to 10:45 am.
Funeral services will begin at 11:00 am followed by the burial at Cedar Park and Beth El Cemeteries, 735 Forest Ave, Paramus, NJ 07652, US, on March 10, 2026.
