Paul A. Brauth, beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and brother, passed away peacefully on March 18, 2016 at the age of 98. Funeral services will be held Monday, March 21 at 11:30am in the Bernheim-Apter-Kreitzman Suburban Funeral Chapel, 68 Old Short Hills Road, Livingston, NJ, with interment in Beth Israel Cemetery, Woodbridge, NJ.
Paul served selflessly as a First Lieutenant in the U.S. Army Military Intelligence Service in the European Theatre during World War II. After the war, Paul met Rosalie and was immediately smitten. They enjoyed over 69 years of marriage. Paul earned a degree in Engineering at the City College of New York, and ultimately worked for NBC, retiring after 32 dedicated years.
Paul was born in Poland, and was brought to the U.S. by his parents, celebrating his 5th birthday on the boat ride over. They lived on the Lower East Side of Manhattan, and then in the Bronx. Paul attended Yeshiva and then was accepted into Stuyvesant High School.
He and Rosalie raised their children in Far Rockaway and Bayswater, New York, playing an active role in Bayswater Jewish Center, including serving as President of the Men’s Club. Paul and Rosalie chaired Israeli Bond Breakfasts and other events, and Paul was honored as “Man of the Year”.
During retirement, they moved to Concordia in Monroe Twp., New Jersey, and became active at Congregation Beit Shalom. Paul was called upon to chant Mafta several times each month, and could delight the congregation with little or no preparation. They also spent winters in Delray Beach, FL enjoying the warm weather.
Paul’s greatest delight was his family. The loving husband of Rosalie, the devoted father of Marvin (Susette) Brauth and Bonnie (Steven) Greer; the adoring grandfather of Jason (Kristin), Brian (Katy), and Laura Brauth, Brittany and Landon Greer, and great-grandfather of Carson and Cole Brauth; and doting brother of Harriet Anton.
Contributions in memory of Paul may be made to Congregation Beit Shalom of Monroe Township, Concordia Shopping Center, 1600 Perrineville Road / P.O. Box 6852, Monroe Township, NJ 08831.
