Born in Honolulu, HI on September 4,1966 to Dave and Marilyn Mengden. Paul grew up as one of four children. The Mengden family traveled the world, living in Geneva, Switzerland, and Hong Kong. Paul graduated from Brandywine High School where he was the marching band drum captain, leading man in many plays, and an avid skier. Paul studied electrical engineering at Virginia Tech University. An entrepreneur and adventurer at heart, he crafted a career engaged with many emerging technologies and businesses.
Paul’s most important role was that of husband to Karen Roschelle Mengden and father to their children, Chloe, Kayla and Bryce. Together they created a beautiful family life in West Orange, NJ, and recently launched their children into university and graduate school education. Paul was so proud of his children, never missing a competition, game, or celebration.
Paul is remembered as loving, dedicated, funny, and wise. He was a consummate seeker of new experiences. In the kitchen, he explored an endless variety of hot sauces, exotic ingredients, and new gadgets. He instilled his love of travel in his children through trips across the globe including living in London, journeying to Israel, traditional summer trips to Lake Placid and Mattituck, and a recent visit to his childhood home in Switzerland.
Throughout his life and many relationships, the one constant was his generous nature and desire to take care of others – through a kind word, anticipating needs, and countless hours of researching. Paul was known for his kindness to others; he was a steadfast caregiver for his family, his mom’s weekly trivia partner, and a doting dog dad. He would do absolutely anything for his family except let them win in a board game.
He is survived by his wife Karen and their children Chloe, Kayla and Bryce; his mother Marilyn Mengden, his sisters Leslie Mosier and Karen Hershenson (Trent Hershenson) and sister-in-law Karen Sue Mengden; his in-laws Alice and Paul Moskowitz, Jeremy Roschelle (Audrey Garfield), Amy Roschelle (Len Granowetter); many nieces, nephews and extended loved ones. He is predeceased by his father Joseph David Mengden, brother David Mengden, and father-in-law Ira A. Roschelle.
The family will be receiving guests for Paul on Wednesday, April 23, 2025 from 10:15 AM to 10:45 AM at Bernheim-Apter-Kreitzman Suburban Funeral Chapel, 68 Old Short Hills Road, Livingston, New Jersey 07039, followed by a funeral service at 11:00 AM. The burial will be private.
