Peter Lehrer

Peter Lehrer, 60, of Morristown, New Jersey, passed away on June 30, 2026, after a courageous battle with Glioblastoma. Peter was born on July 11, 1965, in New York City to Bob and Susan Lehrer. The family moved to New Paltz, NY when he was about 8 years old where he formed special lifelong friendships.

Peter earned his Bachelor of Arts in Mathematics with a concentration in Computer Science from Cornell University in 1987, then returned to Cornell's Johnson Graduate School of Management, and earned his MBA in 1992. He also earned the Chartered Financial Analyst designation, becoming a member of the CFA Institute. His career in finance spanned nearly four decades, beginning as a systems analyst at J.P. Morgan & Co. and moving through roles at American Express, Morgan Stanley, J.P. Morgan Investment Management, and Deutsche Asset Management. He found his professional home at Jacobs Levy Equity Management, where he served as Managing Director of Portfolio Analysis and Client Service from 2002 until 2024, bringing his thoughtfulness and analytical mind to every challenge.

Peter had a gentle kindness that touched everyone who knew him. He listened when you talked and heard what you said. He was loyal to his core, mild mannered in a way that put people at ease, and genuinely nonjudgmental, even while holding strong opinions of his own. He had a dry sense of humor that could catch you off guard and make you laugh when you least expected it.

Peter loved being active and outdoors. He enjoyed mountain biking and running. He took his fitness pursuits seriously, especially on the soccer field. In his younger years, he enjoyed skiing, rock climbing, and playing guitar - all hobbies he learned from friends. He loved traveling, exploring new cities, and getting out into nature. He had a robust appetite that surprised and amused friends and took enormous pleasure in a great meal. When traveling, he would seek out the most interesting local food and try as many places as possible. But, perhaps some of his most beloved activities were going into town for a cup of coffee and a blueberry muffin, followed by a good afternoon nap.

Peter met his wife, Amy in 1992 in New York City through a mutual friend. They enjoyed the city life and explored all that Central Park had to offer on their roller blades. They frequently strolled through different neighborhoods, went out with friends and traveled together outside of the city. In June 1997, on a bench along Central Park West and 74th street, Peter proposed. They tied the knot 3 months later and have been married for 28 years. Together, they built a beautiful life and eventually moved to Morristown, NJ.

A loving father to Julia and Caroline, there is nothing Peter would not do for his daughters. He was the softee in the family, and could always provide comforting words of wisdom. They knew they could count on him to help with homework, even if he first had to re-learn the subject. He helped them achieve their athletic goals by encouraging steep hill sprints and shuttle runs, much to their dismay.

Peter was also a devoted dog dad to Tommy, his standard poodle. He put the same energy into training Tommy as he did to the AP classes he "retook" as an adult. They enjoyed hiking around Lewis Morris Park and Jockey Hollow.

Peter was preceded in death by his father, Bob Lehrer. Peter is survived by his wife, Amy, two daughters, Julia and Caroline Lehrer, who were the light of his life; his mother, Susan Lehrer; and his sisters, Judy and Ruth Lehrer.

A Memorial Service will be held at Bernheim-Apter-Kreitzman Suburban Funeral Chapel, 68 Old Short Hills Road, Livingston, New Jersey 07039, on Monday, July 6, 2026, at 1:00 pm. A Catered Reception will follow at the funeral home from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm.
