Roger Alan Sachs of West Orange NJ and West Hartford CT passed away on Saturday April 11, 2020. Born in Newark, NJ, Roger lived in West Orange for the majority of his life. In January 2020, he moved to Hoffman Summerwood Assisted Living in CT, to be closer to his daughter and her family, after the loss of his beloved wife, Sharon.
Roger took great pride in the work he did as a clinical social worker for Jewish Family Services. He started his career at JFS of Metrowest in 1972 and retired from there in 2014. During his time at Metrowest, Roger started and ran the Homemaker Program and was also the Director of Family Support Services. He loved the work he did so much that he could not bring himself to fully retire and continued to work part-time for JFS of Somerset County until 2018. Roger was known for always going the extra mile for his clients and a plaque was placed in his honor at JFS as a tribute to his long service to the community.
Roger was also an active member of Temple Sharey Tefilo Israel, where he enjoyed working diligently on the adult education committee and contributed to the quality of adult education at TSTI.
What brought Roger the most joy, though, was his family. He was married for 51 years to the love of his life, his late wife Sharon, whom he adored and cherished deeply. They were each other’s true companions and best friends. Roger had a loving relationship with his daughter Stacy, his son Marc, his son-in-law Robert, and his grandchildren, Ryan and Justin, as well as beloved extended family members and friends. He was equally adored and loved by those who knew him, and was often sought out for his profound advice.
Roger also had a great love of sports and you would often see him with a transistor radio held to his ear, cheering on his beloved Mets or Seton Hall. He was also a huge fan of hearing all of the adventures his grandsons took part in.
Roger was a kind-hearted soul who knew the deep meaning of love and will be immensely missed by all who knew and loved him. Donations may be made in Mr. Sachs’s memory to JFS of MetroWest and Jewish Family Services of Somerset, Hunterdon and Warren Counites.
