Sandy Solan, beloved mother, grandmother, wife and sister passed away on September 28 in Livingston, NJ. Born in Brooklyn, NY, the daughter of Ida and Ben Spector, Sandy was a true Brooklynite. She graduated from her beloved Erasmus High School and served as Class Secretary. She later graduated from Brooklyn College with a Teaching degree. Despite her Brooklyn roots, Sandy was a life-long Yankees fan and rarely missed a game on TV in the later years of her life. In 1958, she married her sweetheart, Jay Solan, and they were married for 64 years before Jay’s passing in 2022. Sandy lived in Williamsport, Philadelphia, Livingston, and Chicago before ultimately settling in Livingston for nearly 50 years. Sandy is survived by her daughters, Jill Denker and Fern Eatroff; sons-in-law, Cliff Denker and Bruce Eatroff; four beautiful grandchildren, Marisa, Rachel, Allison, and Daniel (wife Laura), and brother, Marty Spector (wife Linda).
Sandy spent more than forty years teaching, most of them at Harrison Elementary School in Livingston. She was an outstanding teacher who would rarely go anywhere in the area without one of her former students remembering her fondly. Sandy’s warmth and commitment to her students and family was legendary. She surrounded herself with friends and family by hosting Super Bowl parties, traveling together, and more. She shared a love for collecting antiques with her husband Jay. Sandy also took great pride in her grandchildren’s activities and accomplishments, never missing an important life event.
