Devoted Wife of 52 years, Mother, Grandmother, Inventor and Teacher
Sheila Kalisher of Livingston N.J., peacefully passed away on February 13, 2019 with her family by her side. It was fifty five years ago on November 3, 1963, in Detroit, Michigan that she met an incredible young Med student, named Lester Kalisher. They were ‘fixed up’ on a blind date, and this fated event began their storied journey together, which had lasted for 5 plus decades. They married on May 8, 1966, and in 1970 they were blessed with their first child, a son, Aaron Kalisher and four years later, a daughter, Lisa Kalisher Rivero. Sheila’s love and devotion to her husband and children were immeasurable and she dedicated her life to making sure that they were loved and supported. She was also a beloved mother-in-law to Deb Cohan Kalisher and Luis Rivero, and is survived by her precious grandchildren Samuel, Tanner and Amelia (Mia). As a proud middle child, Sheila is also survived by her sister Judy Harwood and brother Stuart Cohen.
In addition to being a loving wife, mother, sister and grandmother, she was a former High School English teacher and patented inventor. She was born in Detroit, Michigan to parents Beatrice and Jack Cohen, and growing up, she was inspired by her dad who instilled her with a love of invention and creativity. Although her strengths were in educational pursuits, she also had a passion and propensity for the field of art. She attended the University of Michigan and graduated with a liberal arts and combined secondary education degree from Wayne State University in Detroit. In 1986, Sheila founded an invention company named A.L.L.'S. WELL & CO, and was the President and Creative Director of all innovative projects. She was also very active in the National Society of Inventors (NSI) in Clark, New Jersey and held most offices, including President. She was very proud of the development of her ‘ladies' greeting card line, Astrological Tributes. In 2003, the Tribute's card line was selected to be given out in the gift bags for the Daytime Emmy Awards Show at Radio City in New York. In 2012, Sheila published her second card line under 'Ladies of the Zodiac.' This collection of 12 ladies is fully protected and is her Intellectual Property. Sheila also holds a patent on a clever fishing utility system called the “tackle box belt” that was inspired by her son’s love of fishing and the need for better storage and access to fishing bait and supplies.
Her funeral service will be held on Sunday, February 17 at 11:30 a.m. at the Bernheim Apter Kreitzman Suburban Funeral Chapel, 68 Old Short Hills Road, Livingston, NJ, followed by her interment at the Beth Israel Cemetery in Woodbridge, New Jersey.
