Susan Honey Glynn (née Goldberg) died in the evening of August 11, 2025 at the Center for Hope hospice in Scotch Plains, New Jersey. Susan was born on August 22, 1941, the daughter of David and Francis Goldberg. As a young girl she lived in Knickerbocker Village on the Lower East Side of Manhattan.
She attended Hunter High School, and while a student there won a national essay contest on the theme of “Why I Should Have Dinner with Rock Hudson.” Her prize was a date with Rock, to which she was chaperoned by her Uncle Al, with whom she was very close. That was an outstanding night, but only one of many escapades of a life marked by adventure. As a teenager, for example, she made frequent trips to Greenwich Village in search of jazz music and beat poetry, exhibiting an outgoing and independent nature that she would display her whole life.
Upon graduating Hunter High School she matriculated at Hunter College, where she earned a BA in English Literature. She began work as a New York City Public school teacher, her career for 35 years, teaching at grade schools in Manhattan and Staten Island. She was married to her first husband in 1964, with whom she had two sons. She moved to Rockland County in 1974 and lived there until meeting her second husband, Thomas Glynn. Tom was the great love of her life, and she moved with him to Middletown, NJ in 1988.
Tom tragically passed away only nine months after they were married, but Susan remained in Middletown, NJ and built a life replete with loving family, good friends, and deep roots in the local community. She served as President of her local chapter of Hadassah, and was an active leader of the cultural life at Congregation B’nai Israel in Rumson, NJ, where she served on the Library Committee and ran many book discussion groups.
Susan loved reading, classical music, word games, theaters and museums. She was an avid traveler, and her adventures took her to every continent of the globe. India, China, Japan, Korea, Israel, Morocco, Russia, Cuba….she ventured far and wide and left her mark wherever she went.
Susan was a dedicated teacher, a tireless mother, a loyal friend, a loving wife and grandmother. She lived life with passion and courage, and enriched the lives of those who were fortunate enough to know her. She is survived by her sons Andrew and Lee, her daughters-in-law Emilie and Marta, her granddaughter Ada, her grandson Shay, her brother Glen, her sister-in-law JoAnn, her nephew David and her niece Lauren.
Funeral services for Susan will be held on Wednesday, August 13, 2025 at 1:15 PM at the Sanctuary of Abraham and Sarah, 735 Forest Ave, Paramus, NJ 07652. The burial will follow at Cedar Park Cemetery, 735 Forest Ave, Paramus, NJ 07652.
