A lifelong resident of South Orange and later in life, Verona, Susan was a loving wife, Mom and grandmother coupled with an eclectic business career and a love of the arts and music. Among many things, Susan was known to carefully collect and share newspaper clippings on every subject with her friends and family, challenge herself with new technologies and be able to instantly know everything she was doing on every day since the 1930’s due to her meticulous note keeping.
As discovered in a resume Susan had prepared at age 80 (10 years prior to retirement), after graduating from Radcliffe College (now part of Harvard University), her business career included working as the Executive Assistant and research assistant to Max Lerner (newspaper columnist, professor and public speaker). After taking time to raise her children and community involvement, she was the Executive Assistant to Monsignor Oesterreicher at Seton Hall’s Institute of Judaeo-Christian Studies followed by a stint as the Publications Coordinator at Seton Hall University. Susan then worked for over twenty years as the Business Administrator for the Estate of well-known clarinetist Benny Goodman.
Over the years, Susan was dedicated to community service with involvement with the Newark Museum, NJPAC, the South Orange PTA, the American Jewish Committee, Radcliffe Club and the National Committee to Prevent Blindness.
Susan was the beloved wife for 55 years of David M Satz Jr. and proud mother of Constance Satz, David J Satz (Hallie) and now deceased Jonathan Satz (Courtney). She also was the loving grandmother of Meridith Polymeropoulos (Vasilios) and Spencer Satz (Delaney) and Ezra Satz and Emmett Satz as well as the great grandmother of Mihael. Susan was also predeceased by her mother and father, Helen and Harry Steiner, and her brother James Steiner. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of your choice.
