My Mom, Rose Lieberman, and Sydelle became friends when they were in their teens, so Sydelle has always been part of my life.  She was such a warm, positive spirit-- strangers were just friends she hadn't met yet, and once she met you, she never lost track of you.  She so genuinely liked and cared about people.  And (although she would be embarrassed if she read this), she was an incredibly smart person.  She was interested in everything, thoughtful, ... .  My Mom still talks about Sydelle getting her high school's Latin award.

And nothing made her happier than her beautiful family. 

I just found about Sydelle's passing. She was a wonderful, friendly and caring neighbor. She will be missed. My condolences to her family. 

I remember the first day I met this beautiful "fairy princess" who would become our aunt, and I remember the last day I saw her. In the years in between,  Sydelle was always a kind, gentle, person, never deriding anyone or raising her voice. She took everyone on their own terms and made each person feel special. She showed me what hospitality was and influenced my life. I will miss her greatly. - Ann

As a first (and second) cousin of Dan, I was family.  Sydelle was so kind and loving it was a privilege to know her.  She never had a harsh word about anyone.   She always remembered birthdays and anniversaries.   She was active in so many worthy endeavors.  Her life was amazing.  A true woman of valor who will be sorely missed.

In loving memory of my aunt Sydelle, who would gather the whole family for special holidays and celebrations and make sure we all had something we liked to eat. She would prepare such a wide variety of dishes, Vegetarian. Kosher. Low Salt, 
Gluten-Free…And for one very finicky boy—her famous Shake’n Bake Chicken! ❤️  

And here’s to the trips to Lincoln Center, or the sled rides in NJ or the drives to faraway museums in strange new cities called “Philadelphia”?

And I can’t forget the many birthday cards, and anniversary calls or the random interesting newspaper articles or the Barnes & Noble gift cards for books for our children…or especially the many acts of kindness she showed for my father and mother in their later years! 
Yes…the list goes on and on! 

Sydelle Hirsch always cared for all those around her and went out of her way to see that they were happy and cared for!

Her kindness, her beautiful heart and her joyous loving spirit will always live on! 

A beautiful, kind, lifelong learner, teacher and strong and independent woman who loved her family immensely and hosting guests. I will always remember her hospitality of our Swiss friend and how welcome she made everyone feel. I loved being with her the few times I was in her presence. May her memory be a blessing to Amy, Maddy and their families. 

Whenever I think of Mrs. Hirsch  I smile.  She was always so welcoming and kind.  I met her daughter Maddy when we were  in high school and  have great memories of trips I went on with them.  My thoughts and prayers to the family. 

Sydelle Hirsch was a wonderful person beyond compare, my aunt, my friend, my role model.  Generous and wise and so thoughtful of others, interested and interesting, supportive, loving, hospitable and gracious, joyful, always there for all of us, above and beyond the call of duty.  One of many favorite memories was Sydelle joyfully dancing with her beautiful granddaughters and daughters at Marissa & Josh’s wedding – rocking the night away.

I met Mrs. Hirsch around 1987 at Berkeley Terrace School when I started teaching. I remember one of our conversations we had about when she first started teaching in NY. The governor was  Nelson Rockefeller, they didn't have a teachers union so they went on strike. I new then that I was talking to a legend.  The kids that had her for a teacher had the best. 

I met Mrs. Hirsch in the early 80's as a new teacher at Berkeley Terrace School. Sydelle was one the first persons to introduce herself.  We shared a friendship over the years. Sydelle  has always been kind to students, teachers, friends, and family.  Sydelle
adored her husband! Sydelle loved to dance . She liked to chat ,keep in touch., and express well wishes.  We spoke just a few weeks ago.  She was just as bubbly.  Rest well friend.

My favorite memory was one that happened very recently. I came to New Jersey to take Sydelle out to lunch for her 90th Birthday. Sydelle, Maddy, Jamie, and I talked for hours about so many different things. Sydelle shared a few stories with us. We all had such a nice time. Through the years, I remember seeing Sydelle for many holidays and celebrations. She always seemed so happy and had such a pretty smile. She remembered and acknowledged everyone's birthday and celebrations. Such a kind soul! I will miss her dearly. I am so sorry for her loss. Heaven has truly gained another angel. We love you Sydelle and will always miss you and your sweet smile.

I was just a neighborhood kid and remember working with Sydelle and Phyllis Portnoy on a program for the league of women voters and how welcoming she made me feel. They introduced me to a lifetime commitment to civic duty. May she Rest In Peace.
