We are so sad to hear this! Bill was a professional musician/pianist. We felt very fortunate to have the privilege to be Bill’s neighbor and may the opportunity to let our daughter have some lessons from Bill one day.  Hope you rest in peace Bill!

Uncle Bill was cooler than the other side of the pillow. I played the Stretch LP on my turntable countless times, and I was awed that he was a part of that scene - he had a rock-star aura to his nieces and nephews. He wasn't just cool; he was a caring and thoughtful uncle. Three years ago when my dad (his older brother Mike) died, Bill checked in regularly to make sure I was doing OK, and he even sent me books and music that he'd recently discovered. In all the years I've known him, I truly never heard anyone speak negatively about him. I was incredibly lucky to be his nephew.  Rest easy, Uncle Bill.

My dear friend Bill, the "Younger Elder".
We met in Los Angeles 47 years ago and played sweet Jazz, with your brother Henry on trumpet, and Bill James on piano.  A couple of years later we reunited in New Jersey and kept playing. Later we worked  together for many years on the floors,  and you kept playing great music with Ray Mantilla, Willie Williams and many, many more. 
On the way we lost both Bill James and Henry,  but we stayed friends. 
Give them my love, when you meet them in the great band upstairs.
God speed on your new journey, my friend.

So very sorry to hear this and send my condolences and love to the family and friends. I met Bill around 1983 seeing him in the band STRETCH. He was an incredible source of knowledge and such a great sense of humor. Seeing Bill play weekly helped inspire me to be a Musician. He became a friend and impacted so many musicians in our New Brunswick scene, showed us how high the bar could go with his excellent musicianship. Bill will be forever remembered.  A kind & gentle spirit. Rest In Rhythm & Peace Bill.

I have many memories of my Uncle Bill, who was the “cool” uncle because he was much younger than my parents and was a musician. Two memories stand out. I specifically remember that he gave me a Led Zeppelin record for Christmas when I was 11 years old, and it shaped my musical taste for the rest of my life. Much later, he met my brother Todd and me in Chicago, and we had a long, fun dinner at an Italian restaurant, with lots of laughs. I miss him.

So sorry for your loss. I worked with Mr. Elder and he taught my children at the Academy of Our Lady of Peace.  Thoughts and prayers are with his family at this difficult time.

So sorry to hear about Bill’s passing. We worked together for almost 20 years at The Academy of Our Lady of Peace. He taught music to my two sons too. Somehow Bill always managed to put together the school concerts and spring shows at the delight of our parents. Never an easy task.  He also loved to talk about his son and all his accomplishments.  
May he rest in peace.
