Dr. William Charles Sloan

Born on December 29, 1939, in Newark, New Jersey, Dr. Sloan distinguished himself at an early age through his intellect, determination, resilience and commitment to others. After Weequahic High School, he attended Rutgers University on a full scholarship and went on to study medicine at the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine, also on a full scholarship.

Dr. Sloan dedicated his professional life to the practice of gastroenterology, caring for patients for nearly 50 years at Saint Barnabas Medical Center. Over the course of a half-century in medicine, he touched the lives of many thousands of patients, colleagues, students and families. Medicine was more than a profession to him; it was a calling, and his long successful career reflected his commitment to healing and caring for others.

For all that he accomplished professionally, his greatest legacy is his family. He was predeceased by his beloved wife, Barbara, and his brother, Erwin. He is survived by his children Jeff (Vicky) Sloan, Matt (Alex) Sloan and Jon (Bree) Sloan, and his grandchildren Josh (Nicole) Sloan, Brian Sloan, Bobbi Sloan, Gabriela Sloan and Daniel Sloan.

Dr. Sloan lived a life of extraordinary accomplishment, service, and devotion. He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered.

Funeral Services will be held at Bernheim-Apter-Kreitzman Suburban Funeral Chapel, 68 Old Short Hills Road, Livingston, NJ 07039, on Friday, July 31, 2026 at 11am. The family will be receiving guests from 10:15am to 10:45am. The burial will be private.
