

Dr. Berger was born in Petah Tikva, Israel and grew up in Kibbutz K’far Menachem. He was a tank commander in the Israeli Defense Force before attending medical school at Hadassah University in Jerusalem. He later did his residency at Downstate Medical Center in Brooklyn, NY, followed by a fellowship in female urology at Columbia Presbyterian Hospital. Dr. Berger spent much of the last two decades as a partner in Associates in Urology in West Orange, NJ and practiced out of Saint Barnabas Medical Center. Dr. Berger was known for his compassionate patient care and over the course of his career, developed a number of innovative surgical procedures that have had a significant impact upon the medical field.
When not practicing medicine, Dr. Berger enjoyed attending spin classes, watching soccer and basketball games with his children and grandchildren, and traveling, including making multiple visits to Israel each year to visit friends and family.
He is survived by his wife of 41 years, Barbara of Livingston, his children, Neeli and Michael Margolis of Livingston, his son, Amos of Brooklyn, NY, and three grandchildren, Adam, Nate, and Maya Margolis.
He was predeceased by his brother Amos, who passed in 1973, while fighting in the Yom Kippur War, as well as his parents, Tzila and Eliyahu Berger.
The family would like to thank Ron Geier, a loyal friend, for all the love and care he showed to Dr. Berger and the family through the good and tough times.
Services were held on October 20th, with arrangements by Bernheim-Apter-Kreitzman Suburban Funeral Chapel, Livingston.
