Raymond Joseph O’Day was born to John P. O’Day and Therese M. (Lynch) O’Day in Detroit, Michigan on January 23, 1933. He was baptized at St. Mary’s of Redford Church where he later attended and completed grade school. He attended University of Detroit High School and was in the graduating class of 1950. He attended University of Detroit undergraduate and Dental School. He graduated from Dental School in 1958. He served in the United States Army Dental Corps in Korea. Upon his return, he was assigned to the Dental Clinic at the U.S. Military Academy at Westpoint. Before being honorably discharged, Dr. O'Day was promoted to the rank of Major. He married his beloved wife Ann at St. Scholastica Church in Detroit, Michigan in 1960.
Dr. O’Day was very active in his community. He served the Westland, Michigan area through his dental practice for 50 years. He was an active member of the American Dental Association. He was a member of the Kiwanis Club and served as a Distinguished Past President. He was very active in his parish church, St. Aidan’s, for many years. He served there as a Lector and an Ecumenical Minister. Dr. O’Day was also proud to have been a member of the Knights of Columbus.
Dr. O’Day enjoyed exotic fishing excursions, travel and golf. He enjoyed watching baseball and college football games, especially the Fighting Irish of Notre Dame. Dr. O’Day loved Christmas and won an annual community contest for his holiday display at his Westland clinic. He enjoyed making eggnog from a recipe he obtained from his mother.
Dr. O’Day was preceded in death by his parents, his brother, Dr. James O’Day, D.O., and his sister Eileen (O’Day) Soeters, RN. He is survived by his wife, Ann (nee: Proskey). He will be greatly missed by his many beloved nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be on Sunday, November 10, 2019, from 1:00 - 8:00 p.m. (with a rosary recitation at 7:00 p.m.) at Harry J. Will Funeral Home, 37000 West Six Mile Road, Livonia, MI 48152. Visitation continues on Monday, November 11, 2019 from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the Mass of the Resurrection at St. Aidan Catholic Church, 17500 Farmington Road, Livonia, MI 48152. After the post-funeral luncheon, burial will be at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, 25800 West Ten Mile Road, Southfield, MI 48033.
