Alessio Iafrate

February 22, 1954October 6, 2021

Alessio Iafrate of Canton, Michigan was born February 22, 1954 and passed away on October 6, 2021. Loving son of Olga and the late Michele Iafrate. Beloved husband of Margaret for 37 wonderful years. Cherished father of Dawn (Dave) Smith and Cassandra (Rob) Van-Amburg. Dear grandfather of Audrey Cooke, Kasual Waters, Talia Waters, Myles Cooke, Sydney Smith and Dantae Van-Amburg. Dearest brother of Gianni (Susan) Iafrate.

Alessio was born in Italy and came to the United States when he was 14. He made a life for himself here. He worked hard and saved his money and made a great life for his family. He worked as auto body repair man for 22 years and after that he worked with his brother Gianni when they took over their father’s cement company. He could paint, draw, and fix anything. He loved his classic cars. He was stoic, pragmatic, stubborn and particular. He had a warmth about him, along with a certain coolness in his stride. He had a tender hearted and gentle soul. He loved his family and they loved him. Alessio was a courageous man, a warrior who lost his battle with multiple myeloma.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday October 12, 2021 from 4-8pm with a 7pm rosary and sharing of memories. Alessio will be laid to rest at Glen Eden Lutheran Memorial Park Cemetery.

Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared below for the Iafrate family.

Alessio was a wonderful friend, he was like my older brother growing up. He always looked out for me. Always worried that I needed something to eat before I went to Beauty School. He will be truly missed. Conolences to all of the family. Maryann Rea

Al was the love of my life and our girls remind me regularly of how much we loved each other. I’m sad to know he is gone, but he is finally at peace and no longer hurting.

I remember meeting Alessio many years ago and found him to be quiet, polite and soft-spoken. He was very much committed to his wife, children and family. He had a wonderful relationship with his brother Gianni, his only sibling.

My family and I send our deepest condolences to his wife Margaret, his mother Olga, his brother Gianni and his wife, my sister, Susan Iafrate, as well as his children, grandchildren and dearest friends.

He left this world too soon, but he now resides in a place of peace and glory with God. I wish his extended family and friends Godspeed and healing as they continue to keep his memory alive in their hearts.

Warmest Sympathies,

Annie Rea and Family
