Alfredo was born on January 31, 1928, in Montegiardino, San Marino, Italy, to Giuseppe and Marrianna (Bollini) Crescentini. He was the youngest son of five boys. Alfredo was preceded in death by his siblings Domenico (Maria), Paolo (Tina), Agostino (Tonina), and Marino (Adele).
Alfredo was 26 years old when he immigrated from Italy on a one-way ticket. He came to the United States to have a better life. He did not know the language or have any family. He lived in Detroit in a small community where many people from San Marino also immigrated. He rented a room from an elderly couple. He started to work, learning to be a mason laborer and then a brick mason. He built a life with his own two hands as a brick mason and later started his own company. Alfredo was a very hard worker.
Alfredo met his lovely wife Maria in 1957. Both of them were born in San Marino, but in different towns. They met in Detroit. They married on July 11, 1959. They were blessed with a daughter, Lillian (Nicolo), and a son, Eddie. Alfredo was blessed with three grandchildren: Nick (Courtney), Joseph, and Bianca (Thomas). Alfredo was so proud of them. He was also a BisNonno to George, Luca, Stella, and Sienna. He adored his great-grandchildren. He would have a smile from ear to ear when he would see them.
Alfredo enjoyed getting together with his family and friends, playing cards. He enjoyed deer hunting in the winter. When Spring came every year, he loved getting the soil ready for the garden. Most people would use a rototiller, not Alfredo. He would shovel by hand one hole at a time. His wife, Maria, would plant all the vegetables. They would make a BIG garden to share the vegetables with family members and friends. In the Fall, he looked forward to making his homemade wine. He loved to share with family and friends and compare who made the BEST wine.
Once Alfredo retired at 62 years old, he added other hobbies, which included walking, riding his bike, and bowling. Alfredo was a regular at Tim Horton's in Melvindale. Every morning, he would go and meet his friends for coffee, and they would try to solve all the problems of the World. Everyone in the neighborhood knew Alfredo. He was very outgoing and loved to be around people.
We will all miss Alfredo’s Smile that would light up a room!
